Wildlife products are not only illegal, but also harmful to the environment and human health. They contribute to the loss of biodiversity, the spread of diseases, and the exploitation of animals. By buying wildlife products, you are supporting a cruel and unsustainable trade that threatens the survival of many species and ecosystems.

Some things you can do to be aware, avoid buying products derived from wildlife, and stop animal trafficking:

  • Be aware of the signs of illegal wildlife trade. This includes products made from endangered or protected species, such as ivory, rhino horn, tiger skins, and pangolin scales. It also includes products that are not commonly found in the area where you are buying them, such as live exotic animals or plants.
  • Avoid buying products derived from wildlife. Even if the product is legal in the country where you are buying it, it may have been obtained illegally. If you are not sure whether a product is derived from wildlife, it is best to err on the side of caution and not buy it.
  • Report suspected cases of illegal wildlife trade. If you see something, say something. Report any suspected cases of illegal wildlife trade to the authorities.

You can also help to stop animal trafficking by:

  • Educating others about the issue. Talk to your friends, family, and community members about the illegal wildlife trade and why it is important to stop it.
  • Support organizations that are working to combat the illegal wildlife trade. There are many organizations that are working to protect wildlife and stop the illegal wildlife trade. You can donate to these organizations or volunteer your time to help them.

By taking these steps, you can help to make a difference in the fight against the illegal wildlife trade.

Here are some additional things you can do to help:

  • Choose sustainably sourced products. When you are buying products made from wood, paper, or other natural materials, choose products that have been sustainably sourced. This means that the materials have been harvested in a way that does not harm the environment or the wildlife that depends on it.
  • Adopt, don't shop. If you want a pet, adopt one from a shelter or rescue organization. This will help to reduce the demand for wild animals, which is a major driver of the illegal wildlife trade.
  • Support ethical tourism. When you are traveling, choose to visit destinations that are committed to protecting wildlife and the environment. This includes avoiding places that offer activities such as elephant rides or tiger selfies.

Every little bit helps. By taking these steps, you can make a difference in the fight against the illegal wildlife trade and help to protect endangered species. By doing so, you will be part of the solution, not the problem, and help protect our planet and its wildlife.
